Culture and Talent Highlights: From New Employee to Trusted Team Player at the Office

We publish quarterly stories under the Culture & Talent Highlights series about life at Ropo and our talents from different operating countries. The first story of the year introduces Pia, an Office Assistant at Ropo Finland, and how she has grown from a new employee to a trusted team player at our offices, ensuring the well-being and smooth daily routines for Ropo people.

Starting a New Job

I started at Ropo in October 2023. Starting a new job is always exciting. Breaking away from old routines and learning something entirely new is challenging, even if the change is welcome. When I began at Ropo, I was nervous, but it was unnecessary. As soon as I walked in, I received a warm welcome, and several Ropo employees introduced themselves to me.

Joining the Ropo Team

I decided to apply to Ropo because the image the company had created caught my interest, and it has been nice to see that the talk about a great team was entirely accurate. Ropo’s work community consists of a large group of wonderful people, and every member of the community can be their authentic selves. The work environment is encouraging, and I have also felt joy knowing that I can trust my colleagues and always get help when I ask for it. A good work atmosphere is not always a given, so it is a privilege to be part of such a group. It’s nice to go to work in the mornings, knowing that whoever is in the office, you’ll have pleasant company for coffee breaks.

Balancing Work and Personal Life

Working in a hybrid model, part of the week in the office and part of the week remotely, allows me to balance my personal life and work. In my role, I have the opportunity to utilize flexible working hours, which gives me a sense of trust in me and my contribution. Usually, my working hours are based on the routines I create, but in my role, unexpected situations and work requests are also possible. They don’t always follow a set time and place, but with prioritization and support from colleagues, I’ve managed them well. Through my role, I have also had the opportunity to peek into tasks supporting People Team and Marketing & Communications, which has given me a great vantage point into the work and daily life of both teams.

Office Environment and Benefits

Even though some Ropo employees work remotely at times, there are always several colleagues in the Kuopio and Porvoo offices daily. Cozy and practical facilities enable enjoyable work, and colleagues bring good vibes. The workplace’s comfort and the benefits provided by the employer, such as snacks and coffee, keep the mind fresh, and coffee breaks with colleagues nicely break up the day.

Fast-Paced and Rewarding Work

My work has been fast-paced from the start, and I have learned a lot. My scope of duties is broad, and new tasks and challenges regularly come up. The fast pace of the job ensures that work remains interesting all the time. Often, my days involve helping colleagues with everyday matters in the office and ensuring the practicality of the facilities. Although I work in Finland, my role has an exciting international twist, and I have had the opportunity to organize large global events for my Nordic colleagues. I love planning and visualizing events, so I have been delighted to be able to pursue this passion in my role. I feel a sense of accomplishment whenever I can help a colleague resolve an issue, thus making their work easier. It’s nice to hear feedback on how things have gone and use it to develop my skills further.
