Automated end-to-end invoicing solutions and cash flow optimization streamlined processes at energy company Bodø Energi. “We now spend far less time on administrative follow-up, and our invoice-to-cash operations flow seamlessly,” says Director Ole Angellsen.
Bodø Energi is the leading energy company in the Bodø and Salten region. The company is wholly owned by Bodø Municipality and serves over 17,000 customers through various subsidiaries specializing in electricity, district heating, and vehicle and boat charging.
“Previously, we had a rather fragmented setup – multiple systems, different providers, and little cohesion. It was challenging to maintain oversight, especially when coordinating processes across our group companies,” says Ole Angellsen, Director of Bodø Energi Kraftsalg.
After a thorough process in 2024 to select a new invoicing technology partner, the company chose Ropo. At the beginning of 2025, Bodø Energi transitioned to a fully integrated Ropo One™ Embed solution encompassing multichannel invoice delivery, sales ledger management, payment monitoring, and automated reminder and collection processes. The service also includes advanced reporting capabilities and payment-related customer service.
“We greatly appreciate having invoice delivery, receivables, and collections unified through one partner and one seamless workflow. It has eliminated friction points and optimized our processes,” says Angellsen.
Streamlined cash flow management and reduced internal workload
With over 200,000 invoices processed annually, managing individual customer follow-ups and allocating payments across multiple subsidiaries creates significant administrative overhead. Angellsen highlights that Bodø Energi operates as a relatively lean organization with several subsidiaries, structured primarily for operational efficiency.
“We simply don’t have the resources to handle manual processes and errors. Everything is now automated and streamlined – invoices reach their intended destinations, payments are allocated correctly, and we’ve achieved significant time savings internally,” he explains.
Angellsen and his team also praise Ropo’s proactive customer service function.
“We receive prompt responses and quick solutions. They’ve taken on more responsibility than we initially expected, and we’re confident that Ropo can support us with additional services as our needs evolve,” he adds.

Digital invoicing transformation: Quality and transparency in delivery
Bodø Energi was particularly impressed with the onboarding and implementation phase. Before the project began, they were encouraged to create a detailed expectations list.
“We were very detailed about our expectations – from overall operational requirements down to individual invoice specifications. The project team clearly understood our challenges and solution requirements, and they were completely transparent about what was achievable and what wasn’t – and why. This transparency builds trust, and they’ve delivered on every promise,” he says.
He also notes that Bodø Energi’s technological competence has increased as a result of the system transition and project implementation.
“We’ve undoubtedly strengthened our internal capabilities. Ropo brings the technological expertise, while we focus on clearly articulating our requirements and collaborating with their project team to explore possibilities. The partnership has been highly valuable,” says Angellsen.
Expectations exceeded
Bodø Energi’s existing use of Utility Cloud as their core system enabled a seamless transition and implementation.
“Utility Cloud provides our operational foundation, while Ropo functions essentially as our cash register. Since electricity sales and invoicing are absolutely central to our business, flawless performance was non-negotiable. Our expectations were high – and we’re pleased to report that so far, so good,” he concludes.
